26th October 2011.

Barlow Lakes. 4 on Dawson's 0live with white tail, some taken on drop. 1 on a red diawl Bach suspended on a dropper via a Shipmans Buzzer. Had to work out that one! All on Lake 2, as yesterday. Outwitted the wily trout on Lake 4 on a sulphur klinkhammer. Watched them refuse every dry prior to this one. Impressed myself. ------------------

18th April 2011. Lakeside - Ranskill

Sunny and still for am. No takes. Pm clouded over and breeze got up. So trout began feeding. Initially caught 9 rudd on small black dry fly. Caught 2 on Diawl Bach so was really pleased. Lost 2 trout from surface. Watched surface activity and worked out patrol routes. Caught 3 rainbows to 18". Lost a very large one which bent hook! Moral don't use Carillon own brand surface hooks - use Kamasan. Easily top rod on day. Chinese family stopped to watch. Learnt- to find fish first. Go with the wind when it is warm. ------------------

Why didn't I drift the small spiders? Could have easily fooled those large cruising trout? Next time - Always give those North Country spiders a try!

Flat calm am. Lots of missed takes to Red tagged black pensioner. Buzzer hatch and trout taking just under surface. Caught 2lb Rainbow on small plain black buzzer. Set up washing line with shipmans on point, marabou red holo diawl bach and buzzer on droppers. Immediate response on diawl bach, catching 2 more trout of similar type. Fished near outlet with large cdc and leaded blob. Missed 2 takes, they got off. One was a truly massive fish. Windy in afternoon. Casting got better, and is starting to become natural. ------------------
